New York City lights the giant evergreen tree at Rockefeller Center. Washington D.C. lights the National Christmas Tree near the White House. Rochester, N.Y. however, lights something waaaaaay cooler…a 26 foot tall Christmas tree made entirely from half-barrel beer kegs!!! OMG!!
In 2014 the keg tree at the Genesee Brew House (25 Cataract St.) gained national attention when images of the blazing spectacular went viral on news channels galore. And seriously, why wouldn’t it? It’s made from KEGS!! Now in its 3rd year, this new Rochester tradition is bigger and better than ever.
This year, the sparkling beer beauty shines bright in the Rochester skyline by featuring over 20,000 lights – 1,500 more than last year. 430 delicious kegs are stacked in 11 perfect layers to form this Christmas miracle. And to add a little bit of frosting to this fruit cake…all of the lights are perfectly synched to Christmas carols. Come on now!
The Genesee Brewery Keg Tree will only stay up for a few more weeks. We suggest getting over there for a few pints, a few laughs, and to find the true spirit of Christmas! And if you need to find the happy little elves at Scriptable Solutions…we’ll be getting our happy on at the Brew House. Cheers!
