You’ve decided to hire a new web company to tackle the task of turning your vision into an online reality. Awesome stuff. But making moves to a hire a web company should never be entered into lightly.
Since we live in a day & age where even dogs have their own blogs, (seriously they do, just check the Disney Channel), there are many different web companies out there to choose from. Some only work with WordPress templates. Some only create custom solutions. Some offer social media marketing with their website designs. And some don’t do much at all.
No matter whether you are looking for a web company to handle custom work, template designs, logo creation, copywriting, or whatever else you need, it is imperative to do your homework, and research the heck out of who you are hiring – before you hire them.
Here are 5 things to check before hiring a new web company:
1. Work Portfolio
Before you commit to using a new company’s services, it is always best to look over their completed projects portfolio…and do so thoroughly. If you don’t like the work they’ve done for others, odds are you’re not going to like the work they create for you either.
2. Client References
Clients will happily remove their filters when providing a review of their web developers. If you find a web company’s current clients are not happy, the chances of you being dissatisfied at some point during your project is pretty great.
3. Reviews (Google, Yelp, Facebook, etc.)
Outlets for customers to leave business reviews were created for a reason. Customers love to spew their feedback all over the internet. If the web company you are looking into has less than favorable reviews on most sites, we’re betting that you will get less than favorable work done on your website. Check the reviews…they say a lot.
Any reputable web company should have a decent website, complete with updated design trends, fresh content, and new technology. If a web designer’s website looks outdated, red flags should go up in your decision to hire them. If the company is unable to successfully market their own brand, what makes you think they’ll do anything new to represent yours?
5. Search Engine Rankings
If the web company you are interviewing does not appear on the 1st
page of Google, Bing, or Yahoo during a search…chances are, the website they create for you won’t be found on the 1st
page either. If a company consistently appears high up in your search results, that means they know how to optimize websites correctly and how to implement strategies to boost rankings.
A good web design company will have already researched your business before meeting with you – so feel free to return the favor by researching everything you can about their company before deciding to hire them. Your website will thank you for it.
